Hi there! My name is Emiko and I am a graduate of the illustration major program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
…
Em plus ko comes from my name, which is made of two parts: “Emi,” which in Japanese has multiple meanings but most commonly means to smile, and “ko,” child. No wonder I still enjoy today the same little pleasures I did as a child.
This sense of imagination is also the driving force behind my art-making. Combined with a long background in dancing and theatre performance, my illustration practice tends to be spontaneity-based with impulsively selected colors and a little taste of abstraction.
Because of the experimental nature in what I do, my work can veer anywhere between the free-form, gestural side of the artistic spectrum to the structured and design-based. I see my work in areas including, but not limited to;
- Book cover design
- Album cover/booklet design
- Poster design
- Apparel design
- Product packaging
